Repertoire in Development: Four Artistic Directions for the Next Period
A project update on the current repertoire axes: Ibsen, Čapek, Goethe and a new Irish chamber direction, all moving through research, rehearsal and ensemble work.
The next artistic period of Deuskouros Phoenix is taking shape through four repertoire directions currently in development or exploration. They do not yet function as fixed announcements of final productions. They are working fields: places where research, rehearsal and ensemble thinking gather force.
The first is Vikings of Helgeland, after Henrik Ibsen: a dark, ensemble-oriented direction around memory, force, fate and collective presence. Its scale invites choral thinking and a body of performers capable of carrying conflict as shared weather.
The second is R.U.R. 2027 / The Mechanical Garden, inspired by Karel Čapek. Its axis moves around human presence, machines, care and exhaustion: questions that feel increasingly intimate in a technological age.
The third turns toward Goethe’s Das Märchen, approached as a postdramatic, performative and Brechtian research field around symbols, light, transition, bodies and transformation.
The fourth, a new Irish chamber work, remains under artistic exploration, with title and details available for collaboration upon request.
Together, these directions show an ensemble refusing easy repetition. The work continues through inquiry: classical and contemporary, intimate and political, rigorous and alive.
